Mangaluru City Corporation to make 10 Citizen Services Available soon on Online
Mangaluru: In limbo after their launch more than a year ago, 10 citizen services have been proposed to be reintroduced by Mangaluru City Corporation this month. The online services announced in November 2017 when Kavita Sanil was the Mayor did not become a reality with they remaining off-line.
According to Commissioner of the corporation Mohammed Nazir, they will be reintroduced within a week. He told the media that the 10 services to be offered are: applying for water supply connection, underground drainage connection, khata registration, khata transfer, applying to get khata extract, applying for Town Hall booking, ground booking, building licence and display of advertisement. In addition, people can pay water bills on-line.

The Commissioner said that people can pay water bills online now. “It is available. We are receiving some bills on-line. We are yet to give publicity to it,” Nazir said. He said that the 10 services to be covered now are the ones for whom a majority of the people are looking for. However, the on-line filing of property tax by using on-line calculator to which many people are looking forward, may not be available soon.
Nazir said that the government will have to give permission for it for all urban local bodies, except the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, in the State. Mangaluru City Corporation was ready to invite request for proposal (RFP) for the on-line filing of property tax independently. But it was not permitted, he said. “But people can pay property tax amount online,” he added. The corporation had in its budget for 2016-17 and 2017-18 announced that the administration would be computerised in phases.
Leader of the Opposition in the corporation council Premananda Shetty said that the civic body should have made the online services available to people long ago. In the IT era, the administration should make the best use of IT tools to provide hassle-free services to people. The corporation is far behind, he added.
Once reintroduced, people will have to log on to www.mangalorecity. mrc.gov.in and then go to MCC online citizen services, register, and avail themselves of the services listed.
