Mangaluru: District Minister in-charge, Ramanth Rai held a press meet at the district Congress Office here, on February 15.
Rai released the election manifesto for the upcoming Zilla Panchayat (ZP) and Taluk Panchayat (TP) elections, along with other congress leaders. Speaking to the mediapersons, Rai said, “The manifesto is aimed at development of the district. Though BJP has the majority in the district from past two assembly elections, but the development work done by BJP is nil. Congress party aims securing a majority in 36 ZP seats and 136 TP seats. In this election we have direct competition with BJP.”
Rai further said that UPA government had brought many people friendly schemes like RTE, MNREGA and National Horticulture Mission when UPA was the ruling coalition at the centre. “Now people are upset with the work done by the BJP government at the centre. People should look at the work done by the ministers closely and cast their votes,” he added.
Speaking about Chief Minister’s ‘Gift Watch’ controversy, Rai said, “A gift is a personal affair of the CM and it should not be used for political gains. In the same way, the Prime Minister might have got suits gifted to him worth crores of rupees, but we don’t want to make any issue out of it.”
MLC Ivan D’Souza, MUDA Chairman Ibrahim Kodijal, Former Mayors Shashidhar Hegde and Ashraf, District Youth Congress President Mithun Rai, PV Mohan and others were also present.
All the best…
