Mangaluru: District minister in-charge B Ramanath Rai held a press meet at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here, on April 18.
Addressing the mediapersons, Ramanath Rai said, “On October 15, 2014, a memorandum was submitted to the government to construct a new Dakshina Kannada District complex at Alape. The total cost of the complex was estimated at Rs 45 crores. On January 3, the government had advised to revise the cost to Rs 25 to 30 crores and prepare a blue print of the same.”
He further said that in this regard a meeting of the district officers from various departments was held. “The government had reserved Rs 7 crore to build a complex for the district Health and Family Welfare department and the same will be spent for the District complex.”
“The Assistant Labour Commissioner also assured to spend Rs 3 crore for the complex, which will be sanctioned by the government to built district office for the Labour Department. The Minor Irrigation Department officer said that the government will sanction Rs 1 crore to build a district office. From the three departments, the government will sanction Rs 11 crores. The said amount will be spent for the district complex and we have requested the government to approve the above proposal to utilize the funds for it.”
During the cabinet meeting held on April 17, the state government approved to build the district complex at a cost of Rs 41 crore. The government will sanction Rs 30 crores for the project and the remaining funds of Rs 11 crores will be utilized from the three departments, he said.
“The district complex will be built in 5.89 acres of land at a cost of Rs 41 crore. Once the detailed report will be ready, we will call for tenders and by September 2015, the construction work will be started. In two years, the complex will be ready. The 5-storey complex will have 36 government departments, the Deputy Commissioner’s office, two boardrooms and an auditorium. The total area of the building will be 2,15,382 sqft. Parking space for 307 cars and 150 two wheelers will be available.
When asked about his stand on Yettinahole project, Rai refusing to comment said that some MLAs in Kolar and other districts want this project but in Dakshina Kannada, the people and the leaders are against it.
