Mangaluru: Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim visited the district Sub Jail on March 24 and instructed the Jail Superintendent to take care of the health of the prisoners with the help of medical colleges in the city.
The DC presided over the visitors board meeting at the District Sub Jail. He said that every prisoner should get proper treatment when they are sick and should also undergo dental check-up with the help of dental colleges.
He further said that sometimes when people and students commit minor crimes, they should be kept in separate cells and not with hardcore criminals. “Inter-district prisoners should be presented before the court through video conferencing to avoid bringing them to the court from other districts.” DC also advised the jail authorities to make necessary arrangements in this regard.
For the safety of the officers in the jail, guns should be provided. He also said that he will discuss this issue with the Police Commissioner.
The DC along with the Chief District Magistrate M G Uma visited every cell and spoke to the prisoners. They also visited the kitchen, store rooms, wash rooms and women cell to inspect whether hygiene has been maintained.
Chief District Magistrate M G Uma said that in order to change the mindset of the prisoners, we need to start Yoga classes and and skill development training.
DCP Crime Vishnuverdhan, Dharmaraj, district Health officer Dr Ramakrishna, ASP Shekarappa, District Surgeon Dr Rajeshwari Devi, Jail Superintendent Obaleshappa and others were also present.
