Mangaluru: Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim along with the MCC Commissioner Hephsiba Rani visited the Nanthur Junction here, on March 2.
After inspecting the road, addressing the mediapersons DC Ibrahim said, “Everyday, we are getting complaints from the public about this junction which has created fear among the people. We have discussed the issue with the National Highway Authority. The junction has technical and engineering faults which causes accidents. We need to erect speed brakers on the road to reduce the speed.”
He further said that the Nanthur bus stop would be shifted 100 meters away from the present spot by the end of this week. “It is a temporary solution. A two lane road will be made. The National Highway Authority has submitted a memorandum to release Rs 60 crore for the upgrade of the Nanthur Junction. The central government should sanction the amount.”
MCC Commissioner Hephsiba said that the problem will be solved soon. “Mud stored on the side of the dividers needs to be cleared. Speed breakers should be erected and two lanes need to be made for the smooth flow of traffic.”
ACP traffic Uday Nayak said that the bus stand will be shifted near Ullas wine store. “Speed breakers should be erected and the junction should be re-constructed. We have to trim the median as a temporary solution. For a permanent solution, we need to have an under pass or a fly over.”
The DC also assured to make all these arrangements as soon as possible. DCP of crime Vishnuvardhan and officers from National Highway Authority were also present.
