Mangaluru: The D K District Police and the Mangaluru City Police jointly organized their annual sports meet at the police parade grounds, here on January 7.
The sports meet began with an invocation followed by a guard of honour that was received by the Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim. He inaugurated the sports meet by freeing of pigeons and releasing balloons in the air.
The sports torch was brought to the ground by an athlete and handed over to AB Ibrahim who then declared the sports meet open. Seven teams: Mangaluru Rural, Mangaluru Central, Mangaluru North, Mangaluru South, Puttur, Belthangady and Women’s police team, took part in the sports meet. The assembled team leaders, along with their team members, took a pledge of sportsmanship.
DCP Vishnuvardhan welcomed the gathering and said that the meet was aimed at re-energizing the police who have worked hard for the betterment of the society. He congratulated all the participants and said that the sports meet has bought the entire district police force together under one banner.
Addressing the gathering Ibrahim said that sports is a healthy exercise, for a healthy body we need to actively take part in sports. Sports will keep a person fit and healthy and it greatly helps to relieve stress. He congratulated all the participants as well all the winners in advance.
Many events like running race, discus throw, long jump, high jump, shot put, triple jump, javelin throw will be conducted.
Commissioner of police Murugan, SP Dr Sharanappa and others were also present.
