Mangaluru: The diocesan leaders met the Police Commissioner S Murugan and submitted a memorandum in his office on March 2 in connection with derogatory comments published on a facebook page.
In the memorandum, it is mentioned that a person had commented derogatory messages against Jesus Christ. “We Christians respect religious priests and nuns as they serve the society without discrimination of caste, creed and religion. They are the representatives of Jesus Christ. From the past 2000 years, the Christian community has been peacefully living in India without harming the sentiments of people of other religions.”
“But for the past few days, a person called Sriram Yedapadithaya has been writing derogatory comments on facebook about Jesus Christ and Christianity. It is a direct attack on the Christian community. No one has the right to insult or play with the sentiments of the people of other religions.”
“The words which have been published on the Facebook page are most derogatory and of a sick mind. It is also mentioned, “Christians should be slaughtered”. Such words are against the Indian penal code Section 144. Such words are an attempt to destroy peace and harmony in the society.”
“Under the IPC section 295(A) and (B), Section 163 (A), (B), it is a heinous crime. Under the cyber crime laws, exchanging such comments or attempting to create enmity among the people is also a crime.”
“The person who commented on the facebook page is a threat to the society.”
