Mangaluru: Chidananda, the village accountant of Thumbe gram panchayat of Bantwal, hailing from Gubbi taluk of Tumkur district, was found dead in a lodging house in the city late in the evening on Saturday.

He is said to have ended his life by consuming poison. He had joined the revenue department in 2006 and first served in Alike panchayat and had later been transferred to Thumbe. His family is currently settled in Mysuru. He was also on training for the land surveyor’s post.

He with his wife Chaitra and son Samruddh aged eighteen months lived in a rented house near Goodinabali of Bantwal Muda village. On Friday, he is said to have met Shivappa, a friend and fellow-village accountant posted at Kadeshwalya at B C Road and told him that he was to go to Mysuru. He was not seen thereafter.

Later in the night on Friday, he called up his wife and enquired after their child, asking them to have food. He appeared to have come to the city and quietly checked into the lodging house.

Enquiries indicated that there was no reason for him to arrive at this harsh decision. However, a six-page death note found by the police has unravelled the full story. He has revealed that an astrologer had predicted that his son’s life would soon be in danger. He went through a state of worry and dejection on account of it, since he had an ambition that Samruddh should become an engineer or a doctor.

He has expressed that he would not able to see in his own eyes something terrible happening to his son. Hence he appears to have taken the desperate step. His friends said that while he was worried about the prediction, he failed to think of the fate of his young wife and the future of the son after his death.

He has also wished that his wrist watch be given to his close friend Shivanna and that his funeral pyre should be set fire to by his son.

When the information about his suicide was received, Bantwal tahsildar Purandar Hegde and other revenue officials visited the spot and identified the body. On Sunday afternoon, the body was brought to the taluk office in Bantwal and the public were allowed to pay their final respects.

In the meantime, his family members had arrived and the mortal remains were taken by them to Mysuru for final rites.
