Mangaluru: MLC Ivan D’Souza held a press meet at his office, Lalbagh here on January 29.
Addressing the mediapersons, Ivan said “Two of the six cities from Karnataka have made it to the Smart Cities Mission list. Unfortunately Mangaluru has not been listed. I don’t know on what basis they have made the selection. According to me Mangaluru City Corporation has worked very hard for this mission. All initiatives have been taken for the development of Mangaluru City.”
“IT connectivity, e-governance and citizen participation were some of the major initiatives included in our mission,” he added.
He further said “I am very disappointed with the Governments decision. Despite Mangaluru being equipped with all basic infrastructure and offers good quality of life through smart solutions, it has not been listed. Mangaluru is a vibrant city in Karnataka and was a front runner in this contest. It is even rated as the top 20 wealthiest cities of India. Mangaluru City Corporation was highly focused in educating its stakeholders on best practices. With all these initiatives “Mangaluru” must have been listed in the first phase of smart cities. There was no problem with the proposal submitted by us. We have given a clear proposal to the government. Therefore we are asking our government, on what criteria did we not qualify to be in the top 20 list? We hope that we work on our drawbacks and thus make it up in the second phase to the smart city list.”
Mayor,Jacintha Alfred, Deputy Mayor Purshotham, Former Mayor Sashidhar Hegde and others were also present.
Mr Ivan, you are sad that Mangalore is not in Smart City List. I am happy along with thousands more because 1000 crore is saved. That is Tax payers money which could have been Swindled Out by the Corrupt. You know who they are. Possibility is that Smart City Selecting Group might have known this factor. You arranged Smart City Meeting in TMC Hall spending Lavisly on Dinners and Breakfast. Why you did not use Town Hall. Selecting Group saw this lavish spending!!! You had wrong Character People in Consultant group. You could ask Inspector Mr Pramod about this.. Some corrupt… Read more »
well said mr joe. you spoke the truth. revolution is around. all politicians will run
On what criteria? Did Mangalore deserve to be in the top 100 Mr D’Souza? This is a city beyond any reasonable repair. It has degenerated over the years. Don’t just go by high rise apartments. Rahul Gandhi had once described Kolkata as a dying city. I guess he had not visited Mangalore.
Mangalore needs to rise above petty squabbles, bigotry and discrimination that is rampant. The hygiene is so lacking in Mangalore. Any day I would vote for Mercara or Mysore.
India is a country where there is so much to learn in the daily events that apply our daily life of Economy, Industry, Education and much more. We have to be tolerant towards others ability to decide on the welfare of our State and our country. We should be fully prepared to offer our expertise to others for which they have to compensate for our time, talent as well as our expertise. Mangalore can prove in more than one way our ability to be of service to many others, and by so doing, we learn our way and grasp the… Read more »
“Despite Mangaluru being equipped with all basic infrastructure and offers good quality of life through smart solutions…..” report quoting someone shown smiling in one pf the pictures above.
When he says “all basic infrastructure and good quality life’, is he referring to ‘somaalia’ standards? Just curious.

Lol! How many decades did you wallow in Somalia to know about ‘standards” out there and further to draw a parallel(with regard to the infrastructure) with M’lore?
Is that what prompted you to hightail it to Yumreeka – the Land of the ‘PREEEEE’. 🙂
Yahooo, Paet poojari. 🙂
