Mangaluru: District Administration Celebrates 66th Republic Day

Mangalore: Dakshina Kannada district administration celebrated the 66th Republic Day at the Nehru Maidan here on January 26.

The programme began with a patriotic song. The district minister-in-charge B Ramanath Rai hoisted and paid respect to the National flag. He was later taken on a open jeep to inspect the parade and receive the guard of honour.

Addressing the gathering  Ramanath Rai said, “India is a secular country and we have unity in diversity. Republic day is a celebration of superiority of the democratic system. The constitution transforms to either good or bad, not depending on what is written in the Constitution; but on the people who follow it. Every citizen of our nation should think of their fundamental rights and duties based on this perspective. India is a secular country and we need to respect all the religions equally without any discrimination. It is our duty to create harmony and peace in the society.

He briefed on various developmental projects initiated by the government in the district. He further said that the government trying its best from time to time to direct the country towards development, based on the changes we observe internationally. We need to join hands to eliminate anti social elements from our country. India is one of the strongest nation in the world. The education system, science and technology in India has attracted the world and many international institutions come forward to offer jobs to our people. We have more than 100 crore population in 29 states. Every state has its own culture and tradition. It is our duty to maintain our culture and solidarity, he added.

An attractive parade was displayed by the police force, NCC, NSS and Bharat Seva Dal volunteers from different schools and colleges in the city. Entertainment programmes were presented by the school children from St Aloysius High School.

Five people were conferred Sarvotham Award for their service in the government offices. Prizes were distributed to the students who have won the Essay writing and drawing competition.

The Republic Day celebrations was graced by Deputy Commissioner Adoor B Ibrahim, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, IGP Western Range Amrit Paul, MAL J R Lobo, MLA Moideen Bava, Police Commissioner Murugan, SP Dr Sharanappa, CEO of ZP Tulasi Maddineni, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, MLC Ivan D’Souza, MCC Commissioner Hebsibha Rani Koralpati, Kannada Sahithya Parishath Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, President of Konkani Sahitya Academy Ray Castelino and many other VIPs.
