Mangaluru: The Department of Horticulture is proud to announce that we are organizing the annual Mega event “Flower show” in collaboration with Zilla Panchayat, District Administration and Siri Thotagarike Society Mangaluru at the Kadri Park from January 23. The mega event is open to the public from 23 to 26 and the District Minister in-charge B Ramanath Rai will inaugurate the flower show, said the CEO of ZP Sreevidya in a press meet held at the Kadri park here on January 20.
The annual flower show aims at creating awareness on Horticulture among the common public, on how to enhance environment protection, improve public sanitation, Landscaping cities and villages to increase aesthetic values, processing and value addition of all Horticulture produce with the help and co-ordination from other Government agencies, public and private institutions and the citizens. Ultimately the show aims to develop Horticulture industry in the district.
The theme of the Flower show is Yakshagana, which is the traditional folk art of this district. Yakshagana will be represented in flower arrangements using Dutch rose, Carnation and other attractive flowers.
Flower Model on Musical instruments will be sponsored by dairy day. The department is popularizing terrace and kitchen garden, especially in the cities, to grow and use the vegetable within the space available in and around the house, to promote hygienic and nutritive food habits among the consumers. In this regard a demonstration is being organized at the flower show event wherein vegetable is grown on the spot by the Horticulture Department staff organically.
A Platform is provided to display beautiful flower arrangement, Bonsai plants and attractive plants like Anthorium and orchids.
HOPCOMS will sponsor elephant model decorated with tomatoes.
There will be competitions for interested people in flower arrangement, vegetable kitchen garden, terrace garden model and floral rangoli. Winners will be honoured and all the models of the participants will be kept open for public display.
Various attractive flowers grown by the Horticulture Department will be beautifully arranged and displayed in the show.
There will be stalls from various Government Departments imparting awareness on recent technology and availability of Government schemes.
The stalls of nurseries, seed and fertilizer sellers and machine, equipment suppliers will be kept open to the public for enquiry and purchase.
Arrangements have been made for display and sale of organic products, Horticulture products and value added products of various manufacturers.
Dakshina Kannada Hotel Association is conducting a Food Festival within the flower show premises having 30 stalls with various menu.
There will be cultural programme from 6:00pm to 8:30pm every day on account of the Karavali Utsav.
We are conducting vegetable carving contest.
As usual we have fixed the entrance fee for the adults at Rs.10/- and for Children Rs 5/-. Students are encouraged with free pass if they visit the show in groups during school time and accompanied by the school representatives.
All are invited to this Grand Festival and the public is requested to make use of the technology, information, opportunities in the show for their benefit.
Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim said that the arrangements have been made for vehicle parking. Between Deer Park and Kadri park we will erect the stage for the 9-day programme. Traffic will be diverted. We have taken all the measures for the success of the flower show and Karavali Utsav. In Mangaluru there is no encouragement for the flower show. We have called for the competition of garden and we have received 10 entries in three categories. People should take special interest in gardening, such as terrace gardens, private gardens, government gardens and gardens in house compounds.
DC also said that on January 26, A hovercraft will be kept for display at Tannirbavi beach from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The hovercraft operation will be showcased from 11 am to 11:30 am which will include high speed manoeuvres and other operations.
When asked about Togadia visiting Mangaluru after a ban imposed on him from entering the city, DC said that the Police commissioner is the right person to answer the question. Togadia is not attending any function in Mangaluru. He is going to Sringeri via Mangaluru.
DC also said that we have identified four places for the people to hold protests and within a week they will be finalized.
