Mangaluru: Police commissioner held a press meet at his chamber, to clarify the arrest of suspected ISIS member here on January 22.
Addressing the mediapersons Police commissioner Chandra Sekhar said that there are false rumours spreading through some news channels which creates panic among the people. NIA had asked for local assistance with the local police and we have assisted the National Investigation Agency to arrest Najmul Huda.
When asked were the suspected person has been taken after the arrest, Commissioner said, “I don’t know anything about the person. It is a case of the NIA and they are investigating. I don not have any clue about where he has been taken”.
When asked whether there are checks in Railway station, Police commissioner said, “It is a routine”.
when asked on what section Najmul Huda was arrested, Chandra Sekhar said, “I have not investigated the case as the case is with the NIA. They asked for our assistance and we have rendered our assistance to NIA. We don’t know anything more about the case”.
When questioned of any terror threat to Mangaluru on Republic day, Chandra Sekhar said. “we have not intorrogated the person, I am not able to answer the question. As per the CRPC whenever a person has to be arrested and they ask for the assistance of the local police we have to assist them and there is nothing beyond it.
He also urged the mediapersons not to create any false rumours which may create panic among the people. Some TV Channels have telecasted about bombs being planted in theatres and malls. We do not want unnecessary stories being created to cause panic among the public. We have been intimated that Najmul Huda has been arrested. This case does not belong to us.
Najmul Huda’s father Saifulla Huda, said, My son is innocent, based on the post on facebook about ISIS, my son was arrested by the police. I have sent my son to Bengaluru to pursue his engineering. He is a well mannered boy and he is innocent. Police have arrested him based on the post about ISIS on facebook”.
