Mangaluru: Dr Manjunath Bhandary, chairman of the city-based Sahyadri group of educational institutions, has been nominated a special invitee to the Karnataka State Higher Education Council, by minister of higher education R V Deshpande.
This nomination has been made in recognition of his contribution to the field of higher education. His brief is to give the department appropriate and valuable advice, based on his rich experience in running a host of institutions.
On Manjunath Bhandary
Bhandary is regarded as a born leader, a visionary and a successful entrepreneur, politician and educationist. His dynamic leadership has been bringing about much-needed social reforms through education to empower individuals to become the backbone of an enterprising, productive society.
He took up Mechanical Engineering, and later he chose to enhance his knowledge in the social and political arena, by studying MA. and MPhil in Political Science, thus shaping his outlook in a rare blend of being a technocrat and a social activist.
He has been awarded PhD in Political Science for his thesis titled “Women’s Participation in the Panchayat Raj.” In recognition of his relentless service in the realm of youth and social empowerment, he was awarded the prestigious Eisenhower Fellowship from the Eisenhower Foundation, Philadelphia, USA. The foundation was then headed by president George HW Bush.
