Mangaluru: Leena Binoy, aged 42 , who was the director of Euro-Kids Pre-School near Kaprigudda (Near KMC mens Hostel) here had met with a road traffic accident on July 1, 2015 at around 4.30 p.m. at Valencia. While she was riding her scooter, going from Gerosa School towards Valencia, her two-wheeler was hit head on by yet another scooter coming from Valencia Church towards Valencia/Kankanady junction. Sources reveal that Leena who tried to avoid making a turn around the circle collided with the on coming scooter. Due to the impact she was thrown on the ground where she suffered grievous head injuries. Eye-witnesses say that she was not wearing a helmet. She was immediately shifted to Fr Muller’s hospital, but later in the night, her family decided to shift her to A J Hospital & Research Centre. She was declared brain dead on 2nd July 2015.
It was the family’s wish that her organs be donated. Soon after learning the family’s wish, it was immediately conveyed to the Zonal Co-Ordination Committee of Karnataka who in turn activated the Retrieval Team and the recipient list for the organs. After necessary legal clearances the Organ Retrieval Team of ZCCK came from Bangaluru to retrieve the organs. Liver, Kidneys and Cornea are being harvested.
