Mangaluru: According to reports from a rural police station, the police have arrested three persons near to a college at Valachil, in the outskirts of Mangaluru. The arrested are Saleem, age 36, the ganja seller; and his two clients namely Manjunath and Ranganath, both aged 22, who happen to be students of the nearby college.
It is learnt that Saleem and Manga Jabbar were waiting for their customers, general public but mainly students, in a parked auto rickshaw to sell ganja. When the police came and conducted the raid, Jabbar jumped out of the auto and ran away. But the police were able to confiscate 1,100 grams of ganja and Rs 900 in cash found in Saleem.The police seized the Cash, ganja packets, auto rickshaw, and a mobile phone from Saleem.
When the police checked on the students, Manjunath and Ranganath, they found eight sachets of ganja weighing 40 grams, which they had bought from Saleem and Jabbar. Apart from Ganja packets, the police also seized cell phone, and car from the students.
The total value of ganja seized is worth around Rs 22,800. The arrested persons were produced in court, and the judge remanded them to judicial custody. It is learnt that that Saleem has a criminal background, involving two cases of ganja trafficking and a murder case.
Kalyan Shetty-Assistant Commissioner of Police, Pramod Kumar- Rural Police Inspector, M D Maddi-Police Sub Inspector and other police constables took part in the raid.
