Mangaluru: According to sources, taking stern decision against the striking 108 ambulance employees, their employer GVK Emergency Management and Research Institute (GVK EMRI) has served a two-day ultimatum to its employees to resume duty or else they will be terminated from their services and recruit new staff.
A decision to this effect was taken during a meeting convened by Health Minister UT Khader to review the situation in the state. Speaking to media persons, Khader had said that the ongoing strike by these ambulance staff has created inconveniences to the patients. “This strike is unwanted and illogical, even though many of their demands have been implemented. Hence we are asking their employer GVK EMRI to take action quickly and resume services soon” had said Khader.
Nearly 1000 employees of 108 ambulance service presently are on strike, and already 153 of them have been discharged of their duties. Minister Khader has directed GVK EMRI to consider the posts of their striking staff as vacancies and start the process of filling them up after two days if the striking employees don’t return back to work.
