Mangaluru gets Cleaner with Ramakrishna Mission’s Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan underway
Mangaluru: The tenth week of 10 cleanliness drives of the 400 Abhiyans being organised by Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru took off on Sunday, the 8th January at 10 different locations in the city.
164 Akashabhavana – Team members of Swacch Kavoor in association with Hindu Yuva sene took up the cleanliness work in Nadanapur area. Krishna J Palemar and SI Madan jointly flagged off the drive. Volunteers cleaned the main road of Nandanapur. Members of Hindu Yuva Sena renovated the dilapidated bus shelter in the area and painted the shelter. Artists painted the direction boards and drew paintings carrying the message of cleanliness. Koragappa Shetty, Sandesh and more than 100 volunteers joined in the drive. Sudhakar Kavoor and Sachin Kavoor coordinated the team.
165 Kottara Chowki – Members of Kiran Gym Friends inspired and supported by Ramakrishna Mission have taken up the massive task of spreading awareness in the Kottara Chowki area. The big pillars supporting the bypass in the Kottara Chowki area are being given a totally new look since 2 months. Previously the pillars were defaced and ruined by posters etc. The volunteers are cleaning each and every pillar by washing and then painting different artworks depicting messages of Swacch Mangaluru attracting bystanders and onlookers under the guidance of Yashwant Acharya. 3 pillars thus received a facelift. Ritesh, Dhanveer, Manjunath and other 60 volunteers cleaned the surrounding area and created awareness among the street vendors who are prone to litter in the area. Gopala Poojary sponsored the whole drive.
166 Ganapathi Highschool Road – Students of Sri Saraswat Education Society cleaned the Ganapathi Highschool Campus and premises. They have been carrying out this work for the last 10 weeks in and around their campus. This being their last drive all the participants were handed over certificates in a short function organised to conclude the Abhiyan. Swami Ekagamyanandaji issued the certificates. Srinivas Deshpande of Karnataka bank addressed the students and highlighted the importance of hygiene. Ramachandra Rao, CEO of the Institution welcomed the gathering. Mahesh Bondal delivered the keynote address. All the faculty and staff participated in the programme.
167 St. Aloysius College – Team Aloysius took up the cleanliness drive on the court road. Chandrashekar Shetty flagged off the drive. NSS Coordinator Premalatha Shetty and Arjun guided the volunteers in cleaning the road leading from court road to Karangalpady. Lecturers, Nandini Shet, Prashobha and others including about 85 students took an active part in the drive.
168 Kuntikana Junction – Konchadry Friends circle took up the cleanliness drive in Kuntikana Area. Rathnakar B and Durgalatha flagged off the drive. The posters stuck on the pillars of Kuntikan Bypass were removed and cleaned by the volunteers. The surrounding area was thoroughly cleaned, the provision was made for parking vehicles by levelling the ground. Anand Konchady, Ashwath Kumar and several others joined the drive.
169 Hampankatta – The drivers of Sri Krishna Bhavan Auto Rickshaw Association cleaned the Hampankatta main road and the area surrounding clock tower. Harish Kuthar and Chandrayya Maroli flagged off the drive. The area in front of Tokyo Market, the road leading from University College to Clock Tower and the premises of Taluk Panchayat were cleaned by the members.
170 Chilimbi – The students of the Backward and Minority Girls Hostel cleaned the Chilimbi area. Subraya Nayak and Praveen Nayak flagged off the drive. The volunteers cleaned both sides of the Chilimbi main road and the road dividers. Vittaldas Prabhu and Mehboob coordinated the team.
171 Deralakatte – Students of Justice KS Hegde Medical Academy took up the cleanliness work in Deralakatte. Dr Satish Rao guided the volunteers who cleaned the Deralakatte main road and the surroundings of Kshema Campus.
172 Shivabagh – The locals of Shivabagh Kadri cleaned the area in Shivabagh Main road. Sudha Rajendra and Jaya Prakash flagged off the drive. Sathyanarayana K V guided the volunteers. Shivabagh main road and the drains adjoining the road were cleared. Chandrakala Deepak coordinated the team.
173 Padil – Public of Padil area cleaned the Padil underpass and surrounding area. Heaps of garbage and stones lying under the railway bridge were removed. The roads leading to the station were also cleared.
