Mangaluru: Sri Samsthan Gokarna Parthagali Jeevotham Math, a seat of religion and spiritualism, was established by Goud Saraswath followers of Dwaitha philosophy of Madhwacharya in the year 1475 AD. The math is now celebrating its 540th anniversary. Gokarna Math has 33 maths spread all over India. The present Swamiji Sri H.H.Vidyadhiraja Teertha Sripad Vader, ascended Gurupeeth in the year 1973 AD and is the 23rd pontiff of the math and is responsible for the all round development of the math activities.
H H Swamiji is instrumental in building Kalyan mantapas, renovating the maths in different cities for the benefit of the community. Scholarship for the needy and deserving students is provided by the Samsthan. H H Swamiji is instrumental in instituting the Vidyadhiraj Puraskar Award, which is conferred to one personality every year for the all round contribution and achievement. Some of the previous Vidyadhiraj Puraskar Awardees are Late T M A Pai, founder of the Manipal Group, Suresh Prabhu, former Cabinet Minister for Power, K V Kamath of ICICI bank, Vittaldas Leeladhar Deputy RBI Governor, R V Deshpande, Hon Minister, Govt. of Karnataka, etc. H. H. Swamiji is also instrumental in instituting Vidhyadiraj Medical Trust, Vidhyadiraj Educational Trust, Old age Home @ Panvel , Mumbai & Active Senior citizen home – Poorna Prajna Vasthi Nilaya @ Mangalore behind Gokarna Matt @ cost of Rs. 5.50crore.
H.H. Swamiji has undertaken the most difficult Gandaki Yatra and observed chathurmas in holy cities like Kashi, Ayodhya , Pandarapur & Bhadri. Gokarna Math-Mangaluru is the 6th Math established in the year 1660 AD. It was renovated along with the community hall, Dwarakanath Bhavan in the year 1991. The Mangalore shaka math celebrated H.H. Swamijis Shastabdi Poorthi celebration in a befitting manner in 2004 & now it is the privilege of the Mangalore math to celebrate his Holiness Swamijis Sapthati Samvatsara Poorthi (70th Year) celebration at Mangalore Gokarna Math, from 21st to 24th February 2015. Havan, Religious discourses and cultural Programmes will be held from 21st to 24th Februaty 2015. The committee has also decided to offer to the lotus feet of H.H. Swamijis 70nos Gold coin or Misri of (4grms each)on the occasion of Sapthati Samvatsar Poorthi(70 years).
On 22nd February 2014 -5.30p.m at Gokarna Math various GSB/SB personalities will be honoured in the divine presence of H.H. Swamiji for their contribution and Excellence in Business, Social Service, Journalism, Women Enterpreneur, and Politics. Devotees will be offering gold coins/misri at the lotus feet of H.H.Swamiji during the function .
