Mangaluru: Goodbye! ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ by Kapil Sharma to End Jan 24 on ‘Colors’

Mangaluru: “Babaji Ka Thullu”-that’s right, one of the favourite dialogues of Kapil Sharma! The one TV episode that I never miss to watch no matter where I am or whether I have other engagements, I will always make sure that I rush back home in time to watch “Comedy Nights with Kapil”(CNWK) aired every Sunday around 10.30pm or so, depending on the scheduling. Although I may not understand 100% of Kapil’s Hindi dialogues, but I manage to grab most of it-he makes my night a fun one before I go to bed. But now that it is announced that Kapil will end his show on ‘Colors’ channel this Sunday, January 24 2016, has made me very sad-for the reason that I will be missing my favourite show of all times. To Kapil and his team I say ‘Thanks’ for keeping me entertained all these years, every Sunday!

Comedy Nights with Kapil has perhaps broken all records on TV to become the most loved and watched comedy show. With a host of actors playing different characters, CNWK has gone on to score and rule the TVP charts. Kapil Sharma is a celebrity in his own way and a much sought after personality. And thanks to him and the show and the channel Colors, other characters too have become popular, be it bua (played by Upasna Singh), dadi (played by Ali Asgar) or Kapil Sharma’s onscreen wife Sumona Chakravarty. But often enough, these regular character become repetitive and though they are permanent fixtures on the show, it would be nice to have more new characters introduced to the show. While dadi is famous for her flirtatious acts and bua for wanting to marry any man who is remotely single and eligible.

Kapil Sharma was not so famous until of course the comedian started hosting a starry chat TV show with a comic angle on Colors TV. Next, ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’ became a household name and Kapil Sharma, the talk of the town. From the kids to the oldies, everybody stayed glued to watch the chat show and honestly, there was no way one could ignore this comedy show1 or its host Bittu Sharma essayed by Kapil Sharma. Though he was shammed for his sexiest jokes, he was overall applauded for being funny.

Nevertheless, both, Kapil Sharma and the channel Colors TV benefited from Comedy Nights With Kapil. While the channel got great TRPs and ensured that Indians across different states stay glued only to Colors on weekends, Kapil Sharma became a brand in himself. Kapil Sharma with the concept of the programme and his antics soon became stars favourite and almost all the Bollywood biggies started taking stage with the comedian to promote their upcoming films. From Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan to Salman Khan, and filmmakers like Ekta Kapoor, Karan Johar and Imtiaz Ali graced the stage. Kapil Sharma not just won the likes of celebrities but also the heart of the viewers who soon became his fans. Next, the comedian also turned hero when he was offered a Bollywood film. His film did good at the box office, further strengthening his position.

While Kapil Sharma became a star, we cannot deny the fact that the real reason of his success was the show and the solid support team he had in the form of Sunil Grover (Gutthi), Ali Asgar (Daadi), Kiku Sharda (Palak), Sumona Chakravarthy (Bittu’s wife) and even the presence of Navjot Singh (Siddhu). This is the reason why fans were shocked to hear that CNWK will end soon as Kapil Sharma wanted to make an exit. While many of us assumed that Kapil wants to make an exit because of his Bollywood career, later it came out in the open that the real reason is something else.

Well, it seems that both Colors and Kapil is having issues from quite sometime now. A source close to them revealed how Kapil Sharma is demanding an exorbitant amount which the channel is not ready to pay him. This reason lead to major differences between the two which ultimately made them decide to go separate ways. The aftereffect is so bad that the channel now doesn’t want to dedicate any of their future show in the name of any one person though they will keep ‘Comedy Nights’ brand alive.

But sources reveal that Kapil Sharma fans need not worry as Kapil will be seen in another comedy show on another rival channel. It is learnt that Kapil has struck a good deal with a rival channel of Colors that has been trying hard to beat them in the TRP charts. Ali Asgar is definitely going with Kapil and will not be seen on Comedy Nights, but Navjot Singh Siddhu has agreed to stay back. The Real Reason Behind the Maha Breakup is the rift between Colors and Kapil Sharma was mainly because of money.

Well, looks like all the Kapil fans will now have to wait for a while, till their favourite host gets another platform ‘ready’ to entertain them. Will the upcoming show on another channel do as good as CNWK? Well, only time will tell….
