Speaking to mangalorean.com Senior Assistant Engineer Haridas said, an empty coach was toppled, relief and rescue personnel rushed with electric cutters, making a hole in the coach. Thirty members of the department acted as victims and they were rescued from the toppled coach and rushed to a ambulance stationed on the premises. The coach was then lifted and put into place using hydrolic jack and other equipments.

He further said that the main objective of the mock drill is to primarily check the preparedness of all the staff and the condition of the equipment and be prepared for any eventuality. The equipment and staff are always ready for any eventuality, but their alertness and condition of the equipment have to be checked in a demonstration drill of the accident relief train.

To revamp the skills of our staff we have given training in disaster management. In this mock drill we have cut off the grills of the coach and cut a hole in the roof and removed a person who was stuck inside the train. Within an hour we have completed all the rescue work and now we have put the coach back in its position. This is the first time such training has been carried out in Mangaluru, he said.

ADME Subramanyam, Staff Sujith, Sujan and others were also present.
