Member of the organizing committee, Swaroop welcomed the gathering. Proprietor of mangalorean.com, Violet Pereira addressing the students said, “Lumiere means Light. What is light? Where is light? It’s you. You are the light for the whole world. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a clay pot. Instead, it is placed on a lampstand, where it can give light to everyone in the house. Make your light shine, so that others will see the good in you.”

She further said that sometimes some children can create problems to their parents without realizing what they are doing. “Instead of putting your parents in trouble, show kindness and consideration towards them, so that they may feel generally pleased. Be their light in their old age and be blessed.”

Elaborating on the word Student, she said that STUDENT stands for Sensitive, Thoughtful, Understanding, Desirous, Effortful, Normal and Talent. Achievers have three qualities, Ambition, humility and creativity. When one looks at success, one has to keep the four D’s in mind, namely, Desire, Discipline, Dedication and Dream. Nature will fulfill our needs according to our desires but when we have the discipline and dedication in achieving our desires, our dreams will come true. Therefore, we have to place the right dream in the right direction.

Students are the only strength to bring changes in the society as well as in the country. Love your country with activism and not by violating the law. Be knowledgeable and a responsible citizen of the country, she added.

President of District Youth Congress, Mithun Rai said that winning and losing is part of the competition. “In competitions, all participants cannot win. In the end, there will be only one winner but those who lose should not be disheartened. Take it as a challenge and work on it, and one day success will be yours,” he said.

Physical Director of Roshni Nilaya, Flossy Rayappan also spoke on the occasion. Swaroop delivered the vote of thanks and compered the programme. Programme Co-ordinator, Prof Cecilia Goveas and Student council president Atina Aranha were also present.

Prizes were distributed to the winners. The overall championship was bagged by Govinda Dasa College Suratkal and SDM College Ujire  emerged as the runner up.
