Mangaluru: Nominations for the upcoming MLC election were filed by various candidates at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here, on December 9.

After filing his nomination, speaking to the mediapersons, Harikrishna Bantwal said, “I am a big admirer of Janardhan Poojary. “I do not stand for any community or backward class. For me, all are one. I believe that ‘neethi’ (Principle) comes before ‘jaathi’ (Caste),” he added. He said that the only person in Congress who had spoken against issues like the Yettinahole project was Poojary.

He promised that if he won the election, he would launch a struggle to scrap the project. He was accompanied by Kallige Taranath Shetty and other supporters.

Prathapchandra Shetty, the candidate fielded by Congress, had come to the DC office to file his affidavit. Speaking to the mediapersons, he said that there were many rebels who were contesting against him, but there was still scope for their withdrawal.

Other candidates like Harish Kumar and Shankar Kunder also filed their nominations.
