Mangaluru: The MLA of North Constituency, Moideen Bava, held a press meet at Hotel Woodlands here, on December 10.
Addressing the mediapersons, Moideen Bava said that on December 8, at the Kankanady Rural police station, the police protested against the alleged forced leave of Inspector Pramod. “Later, the locals and members of the Sangh Parivar also joined them and protested. The protest was given a political turn by the Sangh Parivar,” he said.
Bava further said, “On December 7, Pramod had arrested an accused in the Ulaibettu assault case. When he was arrested by inspector Pramod, the family members of the accused as well as the locals of Ulaibettu came to me and said that Abubaker Siddique was innocent and that the Kankanady police have arrested him with false allegations. I just called DCP of crime and informed him that Abubaker was innocent and a thorough investigation should be done in this case. I did not pressurise the police officers to release Abubaker but as he was innocent, the police should not arrest such persons.”
Bava further said that in Dakshina Kannada district, law and order situation needs to be maintained. The people of Dakshina Kannada are peace lovers and it is the duty of the police to maintain law and order so that all the people in DK live in peace. He also said that whichever religion a person belongs to, if they are innocent, they should not be harassed and punished. “On December 8, all the staff in Kankanady Rural police station went on a protest and later the Sangh Parivar also joined them giving the protest a political colour. The incident has created fear among the people. If the police will go on strike and block the roads, how can they provide safety to the common people?” he questioned.
When asked why police inspector Pramod was sent on leave, Bava said, “No politician pressurised the commissioner or any officer to send Pramod on leave. It is the Sangh Parivar who gave this incident a political colour. Recently, a media, in its sting operation, revealed the MLCs statement that around 60% police are RSS trained in the department. This incident makes one to wonder if the statement maybe true”.
When asked how Bava could call Siddique as innocent when he already has three cases against him, Bava said, “People from my constituency came to me on December 8 and said that Siddique was arrested by Pramod on December 7. As he is not involved in any crime, police don’t have the right to arrest him. I will not allow any innocent person to suffer. Actually, the police went to arrest one Nasir and Nasir was not available there, so the police arrested Siddique,” he added.
While questioning why Congress party workers were also present during the protest, Bava said, “Congress party workers did not support the protest. We should see the reason for their presence there”. He further said that when he was contesting the MLA election, the inspector of the Rural police station Ravish had filed a false Code of Conduct case against him and he is still attending the case in the court.
He also said that if there was pressure from the minister, Pramod would have been suspended from the post. “No one has pressurised the police or officials to send Pramod on leave. I will send a memorandum to the Home minister to investigate the Rural police station case because the situation created by the police is totally wrong and needs to be investigated,” he said.
Good job by Kankanady Police and DYFI,and Public You stood up for truth. Do it again if situation ask for it. Mr Bawa says,Siddique is Innocent not knowing the fact. I doubt that Mr Bawa even know this Person. When this is the case, why Mr Bawa should get involved in Police Matters. He is not a Home Minister even. He says that He did not pressure but called DCP Crime and told Him that Siddique is Innocent. Again same thing,Mr Bawa said that Siddique is innocent,so Police should not arrest. I am proud that Police Crew stood up to interference… Read more »
“The protest was given a political turn by the Sangh Parivar” – report quoting a politician.
Really? When did DYFI and public including local Christians become sangha parivaara ? Yes – Hindu organisations were also part of the protest. However, why is this politician trying to turn this into another hindu-bashing, sangha parivaara issue? Answer is very simple – Our gullible public and media have been happily consuming this anti-sanaathana propaganda for too long. They hardly question things. No wonder – congress politicians continue to play the same trick!!
