Mangaluru: “We don’t practice what we preach”-seems like a situation here. We have all been instructed by government/District/city officials that we should partake in the PM cleanliness campaign “Swachh Bharath” without fail. But on the other hand, the same people who insisted that their citizens keep their surroundings clean and make India a clean Country, or for that matter, Clean Mangaluru, themselves ignore awareness of cleanliness. Namma Mangaluru, Swachha Mangaluru-at this rate, NO WAY!
Here is one such example- the Karavali Utsav 2015 organized the State, District and City just ended couple weeks ago, near the Mangala stadium. Everything has been taken except the front entrance portion of the Utsav has been left behind, along with tons of garbage scattered all over the area. But it has been weeks since no one from the government, district or MCC administration has bothered to clean up the mess seen all over the area. Are our leaders and district authorities so ignorant or what?
The main people behind this Utsav namely the State Forest minister Ramanath Rai, DC A B Ibrahim, MCC Mayor Mahabala Marla and many other govt/civic authorities, are they all aware about this dirty garbage that is left behind at the Utsav location? Or Are they just ignoring the issue that they didn’t make all that mess. Seems like we have a long way to go. People who don’t even have a proper sanitation facility inside their houses wouldn’t care if you throw a piece of garbage around the place they relieved themselves. It’s not just the fault of Mangaloreans/others alone or the fault of the administration alone. It’s the combined error the entire country is making. But the govt/civic authorities simply can’t ignore such kind of “dirty and messy” issues?
A man would spit on the road while driving. I would look at him and scorn and give him a tiny lecture while driving parallel to him. The police would look at the man spitting and ignore. That is what is going on here. There are certainly people like you and me who discourage such activities. There are a few administrators and policemen who keep moving in every such incident. But let’s face it, the number is too low. It’ll take a good number of years before we can actually claim that we live in a clean India or Clean Mangaluru, especially when we have govt/civic authorities who break the laws or ignore clean awareness drive-Just by preaching, and themselves not following what they preach, our leaders should soon change their attitude/manners. Period.
After all, Indians/Mangaloreans have the privilege to throw garbage around. It’s the duty of the government to clean the mess up, right?
