Mangaluru: CPI(M) and DYFI jointly staged a protest against the Mangalore City Corporation for not completing the Padil-Bajal Railway underpass work, at the half completed Padil underpass here on July 13.
Addressing the protesters CPI(M) leader Jayanti said that the residents of Bajal, Padil are using this road. From the past 20 years they are continuously demanding for a underpass. The CPI(M) had staged several protests in this regard and finally the underpass was approved and the then Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda had laid the foundation stone which was a grand affiar for the residents of nearby area. The railway department promptly completed their work. But the Mangalore city corporation is not bothered to complete their part of the work. The corporators had erected huge hoardings while the construction work was going on to gain publicity. But now when their turn has come to complete the railway underpass work they are not taking any interest. This shows that the congress government is in deep slumber and the MCC led by the Congress party has failed to complete the development work in the city. School going children are using this road everyday and it is risky to walk on this road. Water has accumulated and become a place for breeding mosquitoes. In Mangalore Malaria is rampant but the MCC is not taking any action.
She further said that MP Nalin Kumar Kateel is claiming that he is the number one MP and huge hoardings have been erected everywhere. If he is the real number one MP then let him take measures to complete the Padil-Bajal Railway under pass work. Erecting hoardings and self praising will not make him the number one MP. Let he complete the Padil-Bajal underpass work before claiming to be the number one MP. The Congress party has the habit of doing incomplete work everywhere. When the state government cannot complete the development work it is the duty of the central government to complete it. If the Padil-Bajal Railway underpass work will not be completed soon, we will stage a protest in front of Mayors Chamber as well as the DC’s office, she warned.
Addressing the protesters DYFI leader Santhosh Kumar said that the ministers had inaugurated the Padil-Bajal Railway underpass connection work and the locals had gathered to celebrate. But when the construction work started one person lost his life due to the landslide. When the railway department asked for the road map to finish the work, the MCC did not provide it which is the main cause for the delay in completing the work. He urged the concerned authorities to complete the Padil-Bajal Railway underpass work as soon as possible.
Members of CPI(M), DYFI and the locals took part in the protest.
