Mangaluru: International Conference on Human Rights at Roshni Nilaya

Mangaluru: School Of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya held a press meet at the Press Club Urwa here on March 2.

Addressing the mediapersons Organizing Secretary, Rameela Shekhar,said,” Roshini Nilaya Mangaluru in collaboration with Karnataka State Human Rights Commission, Bengaluru is organizing a two day UGC Sponsored International Conference on Human Rights Education for Social Work Practice on Friday 04th March 2016 and Saturday 05th March 2016. Meera C Saksena, 1AS, Chairperson, Karnataka State Human Rights Commission, will inaugurate the seminar at 9:45 AM and Dr Peter G Kirchschlaeger, a visiting fellow at Yale University (USA), senior research fellow of the University of Lucerne (Switzerland), and consultative expert in ethics for, UN and UNESCO will be delivering the Key note message.”

She further said,”Reputed International speakers will be addressing various issues that interelate human rights and social work practice. Some of the themes and speakers are : Mrs. Pramila Nesargi, Advocate, Women Rights Activist on Women’s Rights Myth and Reality. Dr Shamasunder Acharya MBBS, FRCP Edin, FRACP, Clinical Director, John hunter hospital, Australia on Boundaries of Medical Ethics-Good Bad and Ugly. Dr Sudhakar S. CEO, Prism Solutions, UAE on Business Ethics and Human Rights from a Corporate Perspective. Dr Gautham Machaiah, Senior Media Consultant, Ex- EVP- Zee Network, on Transgression of Human Rights of Common Man in routine Media Reporting.’

“Social Work has, from its conception, been a Human Rights Profession, having as its basic tenet the intrinsic value of every human being and as one of its main aims the promotion of equitable social structures, which can offer people security and development while upholding their dignity. The realization of Human Rights requires the respect for the rights of all those concerned and requires professional skill for creating a space for dialogue, the creation of meaning and correct interpretation. This is also relevant to the Health, Management and Legal Profession. The main purpose of this conference is to achieve the above goal. The participants of this seminar include Social Work Faculty and Students, Medical Practitioners, Medical Students, Nursing Faculty and students, Physiotherapists and other paramedics. There will be scientific paper presentations from the participants as well”she added.
