Mangaluru: Addressing the media persons during a press meet held at Mangalore Press Club, Dr Niranjan Rai-Convener of Anti Nethravati River Diversion Action Committee said, ” A mega protest will be held on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru highway Road near Uppinangady near Hotel Adithya on September 15 at 10 am, where we will block the road and won’t allow any traffic to pass, and we are ready for ‘Jail Bharo’ if police arrest us. We expect around 10,000 people from DK, nearby districts and even from Bengaluru”.
He further said, ” It’s a do-or-die situation for the citizens of DK. The government has deceived people of DK by going ahead with Yethinahole project without furnishing a detailed project report. I urge that people irrespective of caste, creed or politics should join in this fight and support the forthcoming bandh. It’s sad to note that in spite of opinions from scientists and experts who say that this project is not feasible, the government is still going ahead with the project. The government is neglecting the concerns of the people of DK”.
“I strongly condemn CM Siddaramaiah’s statement supporting the project. If the government doesn’t stop this project at the earliest, I have a feeling the issue will turn out to be like the Kalasa Banduri protest. Chances are that this issue will be even of national and international concerns. Since Western Ghats has been supported/funded and declared as a world heritage site by UNESCO, we will bring this issue to the notice of UNESCO. We will not give up until we succeed in our fight to bring a stop to this project” added Rai.
Members of the Action Committee namely Sashidhar Shetty, Raj Gopal Bhat,Dinesh Holla, and Prashanth D’Costa were also present on the dais during the press meet.

The residents of Mangaluru city should be worried about yettinahole project more than anyone else! People from Uppinangady and Putturu will survive as it may impact only those farmers on the riverbanks. Mangaluru residents will feel the heat when thumbay dam runs out of water in summer. I guess mangaloreans are busy worshiping the same politicians who tricked them into this situation!! Well….maadidunno maharaaya!
