Mangaluru: The 22nd JCI-Dinky Ice-cream Eating Competition was held at the Bal Bhavan here on May 17.
This ice-cream eating contest is organized every year by the Junior Chamber International (JCI), Mangaluru in association with Dinky Ice Cream.
Addressing the participants, Swarna Sundar (Proprietor Dinky Ice Cream) said that the ice-cream eating event is being organized since 21 years and this is the 22nd ice-cream eating competition. The competition is a fun game for children because they like ice cream and have fun eating it. For any competition one should have skills but in ice cream eating, children do not need any special skills.
Further briefing about the ice-cream, Swarna Sundar said, “There are many contests but ice cream eating is a unique contest and children enjoy taking part in it. Normally, the ice cream is prepared at -18 degree C, which will melt when it is put in the mouth. But for this contest, the ice cream was prepared at -24 degree C and will not melt easily.”
There were more than 150 children who participated in the competition. The participants were grouped into two categories i.e., 5 to 9 years and 9 to 12 years. There was a special competition for the parents.
Speaking on the occasion, Social activist M G Hegde said, “This competition is fun and energetic for the children since they get to eat ice creams, which most of them are crazy about. Parents should not restrict their children from taking part in such competitions. Children should be allowed to be children.” He further said that this competition was planned to be held in the Kadri park but the authorities refused permission. Why do we need the park if permission is not given to conduct such events? he questioned.
Hirachand compered the programme.
The winners of the ice cream eating contest are:
