Mangaluru: Kambala Buffalo Racing Event Gets New Rules, Time Management to be Prioritized

Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada District Kambala Committee has finalized new rules for the traditional buffalo racing event, Kambala, to be held in Mangaluru. The committee has decided to prioritize time management to ensure the event is completed within the scheduled time frame.

Key changes include:

– Each participant will have 30 minutes to complete their run.
– The buffalo pairs must be released within the designated time frame.
– If a participant fails to release the buffalo pairs within the time limit, they will be disqualified.
– A maximum of four buffalo pairs can be participated in each event.
– The winner of the previous Kambala event will be given a “seeding” (a special advantage) in the next event.
– The participant with the most buffalo pairs in the junior category will be determined through an app.
– Registration for the event must be done at the venue before the start of the event.
– LED timers and sirens will be used to ensure timely completion of the event.
– Three judges will be present at the starting point, and two judges will be present at the finishing point.
– The judges will work in rotation to ensure fairness.
– The decision of the chief judge will be final in case of any disputes.

These changes aim to ensure a smooth and timely conduct of the event, which has been a tradition in the region for centuries.
