Mangaluru: The Karnataka Polytechnic building will get a new face-lift for its platinum jubilee, said the minister for sports and youth affairs, Abhaychandra Jain, in a press meet held at the KPT auditorium, here on December 4.
Addressing the mediapersons, Abhaychandra Jain said that the Karnataka Polytechnic Institution started in 1946 with a diploma course in engineering. This is the second largest polytechnic in the state. In olden days, students from various places were coming to KPT to pursue their education because it was the only diploma institution in the entire district. But there has been no proper maintenance and it is in a bad state. The KPT Alumni Association, which was formed in 2001, thought of renovating the institution. To renovate KPT, the government has sanctioned Rs 90 lakh and the funds will be released soon. For the complete renovation of the institution, the estimated cost will be Rs 2.7 crore.
He further said, “As an old student of KPT, I will surely meet the concerned authorities to sanction more funds for the renovation of KPT. Being the honorary president, I need to strengthen the activities of the alumni association.”
To bring all the old students under one umbrella, a re-union “Punarmilan” has been organised on December 27 at the KPT grounds. In 2020, the KPT will complete 75 glorious years, and the Punarmilan will be the first step to prepare for the platinum jubilee of KPT. All the old students should treat this as an invitation and take part in large numbers, he added.
As a preparation for the Punarmilan, a Kridotsava will be held on December 13 for the old students. On that day, “Swachch Bharat, Swachch KPT” campaign will be held.
Those who are willing to take part in the Punarmilan may contact the following numbers for registration: +91 8867990421, +91 9686922769, +91 9448468580, +91 9379496190 or email: alumnikpt@gmail.com
