Mangaluru: Konkani Sahitya Academy Awards to be Presented to Nine Persons

Mangaluru: At the press meet held at Mangalore Press Club, Roy Castelino- President of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Acamedy said that nine persons have been chosen to receive the coveted annual awards of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy. These nine persons have been selected for honorary awards, book awards, and youth awards for the year 2014.

The nine persons to receive the KKSA awards are Padma Shenoy (Literature) Mangaluru, Koni Sheshagiri Nayak (Art) Mangaluru and Gajanana Mahale (Folklore) Dharwad; Naveen Kurmbil (collection of short stories)-Kinnigoli, Dr Nageshkumar G Rao (poems)-Manipal, and J V Carlo (translation)-Hassan, have selected for Book Awards. Ashwin M Prabhu (Music)-Mysuru, Prajwal M Nayak (Yoga-Bengaluru), and Aruna Nayak (artiste)-Dharwad, have been selected for youth awards, said Castelino.

The Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, 18 January 2015 at Ravindra Kalashetra-Bengaluru at 4.30pm. Chief Minister Siddarammaiah and minister Ramalinga Reddy will be the chief guests, while guests of honour will be MLA J R Lobo, MLC Ivan D’Souza, Minister Umashree, and many others. K Devdas Pai and Lawrence D’Souza Vamanjoor-members of KKSA were also present during the press meet.

Padma Shenoy-Mangaluru: is a recipient of District Rajyotsava Award. She has written a Konkani novel titled ‘Vaishakha Phullo’, and has presided over several Konkani poetry recitals. Shenoy has been awarded KKSA award for the year 2014 for her achievements in Konkani literature.

Gajanana Mahale, Dharwad: Mahale has involved himself in drama, dance and music; and has acted in hundreds of dramas. He has also acted in Chamatkara and Singarevva films. He has been awarded the KKSA award for 2014 for his contribution to Janapada art.

 

Koni Sheshagiri Nayak-Mangaluru : Being a creator and director of dramas, he has created Satya Harischandra, Satyavan Savithri, Lagna Patrike, ‘Sera Savva Ser’ etc in Konkani. For the last 40 years, he has worked in Konkani and Kannada dramas, and has also conducted several workshops pertaining to dramas.He was selected to receive the KKSA award for 2014 for his contribution to art.

 

Navin Kurmbil, Kinnigoli: Several of his small stories are published in Konkani newspapers. He has also written for Kannada newspapers. His small story has won cash prize and award in the competition held by Kanik newspaper. His story ‘Nanv Nathello Peto’ is published in Romi script. His book ‘Devacha Bhagevontano’ is selected for KKSA book award for 2014.

 

Dr Nagesh Kumar G Rao, Manipal: Rao has created a name for himself in Konkani literature. He has written ‘Valmikile Bhagya’ translated work. Being a doctor he has written several essays on teaching and medical research. His ‘Magani Krishna Thuka’, collection of poems has been awarded KKSA book award for the year 2014.

 

J V Carlo-Hassan: Carlo had translated ‘Gandhichem Parzallik Fuddarponn’ (From the book on Gandhi in English authored by former Ambassador of India, Pascal Alan Nazareth). Since young age, Carlo had been interested in literature and has involved specially in translation. He has published 3 translated novels and more than 50 small short stories in Konkani newspapers and websites/internet. His translation ‘Gandhichem Parzallik Fuddarponn’ from English ti Konkani is selected for KKSA book award for 2014.

 

Ashwin M Prabhu, Mysuru: A talented and genius in music, Prabhu has presented several music programmes. He has won several awards in TV programmes. The KKSA youth award for 2014 is awarded to him considering his unique talents.

 

Prajwal M Nayak, Bengaluru: Nayak has been undergoing training in Yoga from fifth standard. He has won several medals in Yoga competitions. The KKSA youth award is conferred on him for his yoga talents.

 

Aruna Nayak, Dharwad : Nayak works in Konkani department of Dharwad Akashwani and has presented several programmes. He has been striving hard for the development of Konkani. The KKSAYouth award is being presented to him considering his contribution to Konkani.
