Mangaluru: An auto driver was thrashed by locals for troubling hostel girls with a display of his birthday suit opposite to their hostel at Mallikatta here, on June 4.
According to the police, his name is Yogi and is a resident of Bolar, and an auto driver by profession. He was carrying a voter ID, with the name of Ramadas Kini on it.
On the night of June 1, at around 12:52 am, our correspondent received a call from the inmates of the hostel saying that an auto driver had parked his auto in front of the Girl’s Hostel and striped himself. Our correspondent immediately informed the Kadri Police Inspector who assured to send the police on patrol duty to the spot.
On June 4 at around 2:54 pm, our correspondent again received a call saying that the same auto driver had come near the hostel, stripped again and was jumping around in the area. Our correspondent immediately informed the police and also reached the spot.
Later speaking to mangalorean.com, an inmate of the Girl’s Hostel, Rekha (name changed) said, “From the past two months, we are seeing this man as we study during the night hours for our exams. He comes at 11 pm, parks his auto and strips himself. Later, he jumps around the place and leaves the area at 2 am. We have informed the police regarding this but they told us to note down the number of the auto and give it to them. As he comes in the night, we were not able to note the number of the auto since it is not clearly visible.”
“Today at around 2 pm, he came again when we were having our lunch. We saw him running around without any clothes on him.”
Local youth who were also aware about the drama, got together and thrashed him. Later, the Kadri police arrived and took him into their custody.
A case has been registered in the Kadri Police Station.
Clearly this guy has some mental issue and he is in need of medical help. I really hope that Police and his family try to help this man recover from this unfortunate situation. Thrashing and violence may intimidate him, but it won’t address his mental issue. Believe it or not, this guy with all of his dysfunctional behavior is less dangerous than real predators out there who target innocent girls.
May be suffering from mental issue. Hope they treat him and not beat him.
Agree with Original Pai. Thrashing a mentally ill person is display of instant herogiri for some. However it doesn’t address the real issue. He clearly needs psychological counselling.
This is a pure case of mental illness. Instead of admitting this man to a hospital they thrashed him. Those who thrashed him must be illitrate people.

Either this man is a pervert or he is mentally ill. Sometimes people tend to take law in their own hands. Instead of beating him – he should have been handed over to the Police who in turn would have dealt with the situation suitably
