Mangaluru: Mamatha (name changed), aged 25, had fallen in love with Yadava from Gandhi Nagar, Ganjimath a few years ago.

Yadava, working as a mason, on promise of getting married, had reportedly developed sexual relationship with her.

On October 13, 2014, they were caught red-handed by a few Hindu activists and brought to Mangaluru. Their marriage was solemnized in the Arya Samaj Mandir at Balmatta. After the formal wedding, when Mamatha was taken to Yadava’s house, his mother Honnamma refused to accept her as her daughter-in-law. Honnamma said that the work of the house is in progress and that they had to wait for two months. On her assurance, the activists sent Mamatha back to her parents’ house.

Even after two months, in December 2014 neither Honnamma nor her husband let Mamatha to live with them. Unfortunately, in January 2015, Mamatha’s brother died of a fall from the coconut tree. Later Mamatha tried to join her husband but Honnamma and her other son did not allow her into the house.

Finally Mamatha requested the Hindu activists to help her to unite her with her husband. On June 21 morning, the Hindu activists along with the police, went to Yadava’s house and requested him to accept his wife Mamatha as he had maintained physical relationship with her. But Yadava, his mother Honnamma and brother refused to let Mamatha into the house. In this regard a case has been filed in the Bajpe police station.

Speaking to mangalorean.com Mamatha said, “Yadava (31) and I were in love for 5 years. In the beginning Yadava had promised to marry me and had physical relationship. When I spoke of marriage, he assured of marrying as soon as the work of their house was completed. Since he was building his own house, I did not suspect his intention. But when I went to his house along with the people who were with us during the time of our marriage, Yadava refused to accept me. Now he is asking for divorce. I love him and I don’t know why he is not keeping his promise”.

Attempts are on to unite Yadava and Mamatha. Bajpe police have also informed Mamatha to file a case against him in the family court.
