Mangaluru: A case had been registered in Madikeri police station in Kodagu regarding abduction of a resident of Bikarnakatte in the city. Now it has been transferred to Kadri police station here for further investigation.
M Santosh Kumar, employed with a firm in Bikarnakatte, was abducted at knifepoint by a group of unidentified persons from near his home on January 27. They gagged him and after taking him around the city for some time, took him to Madikeri in an Indica car.
At Kandanakolli near Madikeri, he was pushed out of the car and assaulted with an iron rod. They also robbed him of his mobile phone and Rs 3,300 in cash.
In the meantime, as the culprits saw a vehicle passing by they abandoned him there. He hid behind the bushes. After some time they came out in search of him but could not find him.
Santosh waited until an autorickshaw arrived, the driver of which took him to the government hospital in Madikeri and got him admitted.
The motive for the act is not known. Some old grudge is suspected to have led for the abduction and assault.
