Mangaluru man Roshan dies in Somwarpet as Corona scare keeps help at bay
Mangaluru: In a tragic turn of events, Roshan Satya Sai (41), a Mangaluru based life skills trainer died at his village in Somwarpet taluk of Kodagu district apparently because timely help was not available due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) scare.
According to a report published in the RepublicTV website, Roshan had arrived at his village Jagenahalli in Somwarpet taluk of Kodagu district on March 20. He was visiting his mother. He is said to have collapsed suddenly in the bathroom while bathing. Though his mother rushed to his rescue and pleaded with neighbours to help him, none came forward as people were afraid that he might be infected with the coronavirus.
It is not known if he was symptomatic of any infection. The local police have registered a case and sent the body for post mortem to determine the exact cause of death.
This is only one of the many unfortunate outcomes arising out of widespread ignorance and panic triggered by the coronavirus pandemic. Though the coronavirus is highly contagious it is nowhere as fatal as feared. According to a briefing on the disease posting on World Health Organization (WHO) website, most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. Older people and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness, it says.
According to available statistics, the death rate in COVID-19 infection is around two percent (with regional differences), mostly occurring in patients aged 70-80 years or more.
Roshan was unmarried. He was a member of Port Town Advanced Toastmasters, Mangaluru. He had done his schooling at Alike Satya Sai School.
