Mangaluru: A man who had set himself ablaze at Jeppu Bappal on July 11 night, succumbed to burn injuries at the Wenlock Hospital here, on July 12.
The deceased has been identified as Sivasubramani (68), a native of Chennai who was residing in Jeppu, Bappal.
Before dying, Sivasubramani had confessed to the Pandeshwar police of the act and said, “I went outside to smoke a cigarette and went to the petrol bunk and bought petrol. I have decided to die and brought red chocolate and consumed it in the afternoon. I am not interested in life.”
His son Sivaraman works in the technical department of a print media in the city, and his daughter-in-law is pursuing PhD at a reputed university in Suratkal and stays with her parents at Suratkal.
Sivasubramani, who had suffered more than 90 percent burn injuries during his suicide attempt, was rushed to the hospital but he breathed his last on July 12.
A case of unnatural death has been registered in the Pandeshwar Police Station and investigation is on.
