Mangaluru: The street vendors once again came under the wrath of MCC officials in yet another drive to evict them from the crowded streets in the city here on March 17.
The Revenue officials along with the Health department officials accompanied by the demolition squad headed by Assistant Revenue officer Vijay Kumar N took up the operation near the city and service bus stands at State Bank and surrounding areas. The squad also took up the operation near Lady Goschen hospital.
Though there were not many vendors doing business as usual, the squad which came in full force, evicted the petty shops, and took away fruits, vegetables and other wares temporarily stored by them on the footpaths.
Speaking to mangalorean.com ARO Vijay Kumar said that the commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation Hephsiba Rani issued a order to evict the street vendors from State bank and Lady Goschen area. Based on her order we have evicted all the street vendors. We will continue to evict the street vendors if there is an order from the commissioner, he said.
Health officer Manjaiah Shetty, Revenue inspectors and health inspectors were also present.
