Mangaluru: MIFT College in association with Mandev Educational and Charitable Trust held a fashion show for blind and special kids, “Walk with Confidence”, at Kadri Park here, on March 14.
The programme began with an invocation. Former Mayor Mahabala Marla inaugurated the programme. Addressing the gathering Marla said that MIFT College has earned a special place because it encourages students to take up fashion designing. “This time MIFT has encouraged the blind and differently abled students to exhibit their talents through fashion show which can develop their confidence in facing the society.” He also said that the students can also gain skills and experience through volunteer work, he urged the students to be good citizens and work for the development of the society.
Chairman of the Mandev Educational and Charitable Trust, Nagraj Shetty said that this is a unique and heart touching programme. “For the first time, the show was held in Karnataka. Fashion means a dress code and it is meant for everybody and all can enjoy. This is the real fashion show which I have witnessed because the specially abled children and the blind performed very well and they have proved that they are also able to take part in a fashion show.”
Director of MIFT M G Hegde said, “Every year, we organize a fashion show. Last year, we had organized a fashion show for the senior citizens and this year, we thought of organizing it for the blind and the specially abled children. We had given them dress code of Khadi and traditional dress for the fashion show. The children were well trained and they have performed well. This is a heart touching event because the participants have performed very well and have mesmerised the audience with their tremendous walk and pose.”
Prizes were distributed to the winners. Calistius D’Souza, Avinash Rai, Swarna Sundar and Damodar were also present.
