The chief guest for the occasion was Vineetha Rai-NSS Program coordinator, while Dr Prashanth Marla-Medical Director, AJ Shetty Hospital and Research Centre also presided over the event. Businessman Panduranga Kamath, who had composed a poem pertaining to Organ Donation, recited it to the public at the occasion, which received a loud applaud. Dr Prashanth Marla addressing the gathering said, “The campaign ‘Jeevanvileena’ was launched with the intention to bring awareness among the people about organ donation when a person is brain dead. This campaign is also to bring awareness among people to maintain safety standards while driving/riding on roads, because quite a few brain dead cases occur due to road accidents, when people drive rash or ride two-wheelers without wearing helmets. We are happy until now there has been a good response to this campaign”.

Consulting Nephrologist at AJ Hospital-Dr Raghavendra Nayak, briefing about Organ Donation campaign said, “Organ donation is the donation of biological tissue or an organ of the human body from a living or dead person to a living recipient in need of a transplantation.Transplantable organs and tissues are removed in a surgical procedure following a determination, based on the donor’s medical and social history, of which are suitable for transplantation. There is a difference between a living donor and a brain dead donor-when a kidney from a living person is donated, one saves one person’s life, but when organs from dead brain person is donated, it saves many lives. Since a brain dead person can’t come back to life, it is advisable that people enroll for organ donation and save lives. I commend this initiative idea by Dr Prashanth Marla in launching “Jeevanvileena” organ donation campaign which will serve for a good cause”.

Prior to the mime show, a flash dance was performed by the Sizzling Guys Dance Studio members, which got a thunderous applaud from the crowd which had gathered on the lower levels, and also all the floors above at the Mall. The programme was compered by Sashidar-Assistant Manager-HR Dept, AJ Hospital, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Ganesh Rai- HR Executive at AJ Hospital.

The campaign which will last til 10 October comprised of mime shows, street plays, interaction by NSS students, Interview of doctors, panel discussion and article publication- on 7/10/2015, Wednesday at 9.30 am – an awareness rally from City Corporation Lalbagh via Bejai to A J Hospital is planned; and on 10/10/2015, Saturday, 10.30 am to 12.30 pm-Valedictory ceremony at the Auditorium,of A J Institute of Medical Sciences will take place.
