Mangaluru: Mangala Alumni Association (MAA) in its objective of helping the University in the development of infrastructure has constructed a bus shelter in the premises of Mangalagangothri. This work was sponsored by Karnataka Bank Ltd.
The bus shelter was inaugurated by the Minister for Health and Family Welfare, U T Khader. The plaque was unveiled by the Managing Director and CEO of Karnataka Bank P Jayaram Bhat.
MAA also has installed a helpdesk in the premises to provide necessary information regarding the University and its services to the general public. The help desk was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University Prof. K Byrappa.
On the occasion, the minister lauded the efforts of MAA and congratulated Karnataka Bank for supporting such noble cause of constructing a bus stop which is useful not only to the students but also for the general public. He said that, with the cooperation of such associations and public sector organisations the government can provide much better infrastructure to the public.
P Jayaram Bhat mentioned that during the centenary celebration of K S N Adiga the founder chairman of Karnataka Bank, the bank had announced the construction of the bus shelter by MAA on November 5, 2014. This has come true and today the bus stop is ready. He also handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to the Vice Chancellor Mangalore University for having a K S N Adiga endowment lecture every year.
On the occasion the Vice Chancellor thanked both Mangalore University Association and Karnataka Bank for their help in the developmental activities of the University. He recalled the services of K.S.N. Adiga in getting the University to Mangalore. He also requested the Minister to help the University in establishing a primary health centre on the campus, which will be helpful to both the students of the University and general public from the nearby villages.
Prof P S Yadapadithaya, Registrar, Prof B Narayana, Registrar Evaluation, Prof P A Rego, Finance Officer of Mangalore University, Dinesh kumar Alva, President MAA, Prof P L Dharma, Sadananda Shetty, Dr Deviprabha, Prof. A M Khan, Dr T Y Malliah, other office bearers of MAA and various faculty members of the University were present on the occasion.
