Mangaluru: The foundation stone laying ceremony was held for the tourist guest house at St Joseph Vaz church, Mudipu here on August 3.
The programme began with an invocation. Parish Priest of St Joseph Vaz Church Fr Benjamin Pinto welcomed the gathering. The foundation stone was laid by the Vicar General of Mangalore Diocese Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu along with the Health and family welfare minister U T Khader.
The construction of the Tourist Guest house has been taken up under the grant ofKarnataka Tourism department. The building will be constructed at a cost of Rs 50 lakh.
After the foundation stone laying ceremony U T Khader speaking on the occasion said that various departments of the state government have released Rs 7 crore for the development of various worship places in the Mangalore constituency to fulfil the basic necessities of the devotees.
In the election manifesto the Congress party had made many promises, most of the promises have now been fulfilled. The state government has released Rs 1.15 crore for the development of roads as well as for the basic necessities for people in Mudipu. For the Uroos in Ullal Dargah the state government has sanctioned Rs 2 crore and for the Somnath Temple Rs 1.1 crore has been sanctioned. The government has also released funds to construct churches, temples, mosques and community halls, treating all religions equally.
Parish Priest of Thokottu Permannur church Fr J P Saldanha, Mudipu block Congress president Chandrahas, chief secretary Jaleel Montugoli, Taluk Panchayat members, Gram Panchayat members and others were also present.
