Mangaluru: The Karavali Gaurava Prashasti was conferred on Director of Vishwas Trust, Dr Olinda Pereira for her special contribution in the field of Education and social service at the Karavali Utsav Stage, Kadri Park here on January 26.
The conclusion ceremony of the flower exhibition and food festival held at the Kadri Park. Students from various schools performed cultural programmes on the occasion.
Prizes were distributed to the winners in gardening, flower exhibition and terrace gardening.
District minister in-charge B Ramanath Rai conferred the Karavali Gaurava Prashasti on Dr Olinda Pereira. After receiving the award, in her felicitation speech Dr Olinda Pereira said, “I would like to thank the district administration for recognizing my service. I take this honour for Vishwas trust, for the elderly people and for all those who have worked with me, the trustees, volunteers, staff and others who have indirectly contributed. My contribution has been whole hearted but not great, but without all those who have worked with me nothing would have happened. The support from all the government officers who have encouraged and those who thought it is worthwhile for this task. I thank you all and I ask you to remember us and the elderly in all your endeavours and give us your co-operation as you have done all these years”.
Ramanath Rai speaking on the occasion said that the ‘Karavali Gaurava Prashasti’ is a great honour and we have conferred it on Dr Olinda Pereira. From last year we are conferring Karavali Gaurava Prashasti to those who have served the society in education and social service. Today we have honoured Dr Olinda Pereira with Karavali Gaurava Prashasti. Today we are also concluding the Flower exhibition and the food festival.
Rai also said that this year we are celebrating the Karavali Utsav in a special way by organizing cultural programmes in the Kadri park road. He congratulated the organizers and thanked the people for their support for the success of the programme.
