Mangaluru: The fruit and flower exhibition was inaugurated by District Minister in-charge B Ramanath Rai at the Kadri Park here, on January 23.
Speaking on the occasion, Rai said, “We are organizing this fruit and flower exhibition as a part of Karavali Utsav which will be held in this region. The Horticulture Department has done an exceptional job and I congratulate them.”
Visitors can get rare glimpses of the splendid structures erected and decorated using flowers and fruits. Notably an elephant and peacock made of tomatoes by Hopcoms and other flower structures like, penguins, dolphins, guitar, veena, tabla.
Various stalls and exhibits were on display at the park, which were inaugurated by litterateur Erya Laxminarayan Alva.
Rai also inaugurated the food carnival just beside the park, which brings delicacies of many hotels from Dakshina Kannada under one roof.
Senior Yakshagana artist, Dr Kolyur Ramachandra Rao inaugurated the cultural procession of Karavali Utsav. After which many leaders joined to perform the traditional ritual of cracking coconuts. The procession went through Bejai, Jail Road, MG Road, Lal Bagh to reach the Karavali grounds.
The procession consisted of 48 troupes of local and other cultural artists who performed along the way to the Karavali Utsav grounds.
MLA JR Lobo, MLC Ivan D’Souza, MLC Prathapchandra Shetty, President of Beary Sahitya Academy, Mohammed Haneef, President of Konkani Sahitya Academy, Roy Castelino and others were also present.
