Mangaluru: Minor incidents reported in DK, DC Extends Section 144 till November 15

Mangaluru: Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim has extended Section 144 in the district till November 15. Earlier during an interaction with the mediapersons at A J Hospital premises on November 12, the DC said that to avoid any untoward incidents from taking place, Section 144 would be imposed till November 13 evening and will be extended depending on the situation.

On November 13, in a press release, the DC has stated that Section 144 has been extended till November 15 to avoid any untoward incidents taking place in the district. On November 12, in the evening at around 5 pm, SDPI organization held a symbolic protest in front of the Taluk office in B C Road. During the protest, some miscreants pelted stones on the protesters. The police resorted to lathi charge to control the situation.

During the night on November 12 in Vagga Bantwal, some unidentified persons arrived in a car and stabbed Harish and Samiulla. Harish died on the spot and Samiulla was critically injured in the attack. There were stone pelting incidents in Bantwal and surrounding areas. The death of Harish led the Bajrang Dal to call for a bundh on November 13, supported by the BJP and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. To maintain law and order, the DC, on November 13, extended Section 144 until November 15.

All the measures have been taken to maintain the law and order in the district. Additional police force has been called from the neighbouring state of Kerala. No untoward incidents were reported in the city till evening. Later, some miscreants pelted stones at a mosque in Kasaigalli Bunder. Police officers reached the spot and controlled the situation.

The Children’s day celebrataion, which was to be held in Pilikula on November 14, has also been postponed. The district administration has requested the people of DK to maintain peace and not to give heed to false rumors.
