Mangaluru: President of District Youth Congress, Mithun Rai in association with ‘Namma TV’ held a press meet at the Press Club on October 21, to announce the annual tiger dance competition “Pilinalike 2”, to be held at the Mangala Stadium Volleyball Court on October 22 at 10:30 am.
Addressing the mediapersons, Mithun Rai said that there will be 10 teams taking part in the Pilinalike competition. All the ten teams will be felicitated with a cash prize of Rs 10,000.
“Today, the tiger dance has become commercialized. Tiger dance is a unique dance and to retain its originality, we are encouraging the tiger dancers,” he said. Namma TV will telecast the tiger dance in 15 episodes. Only 10 top teams have the opportunity to take part in the competitions due to the time constraints. “We have short listed the teams and 10 teams have been selected based on the dance and music. We are giving priority to traditional dance troupes.”
There will be individual prizes for best colour, best music and best black tiger which will be given Rs 30,000 each. The winning team will receive Rs 2 lakh cash prize and a trophy.
“There will be 4 teams participating from Mangaluru, and one each from Polali, Adyapadi, Udupi and Mulki. We are giving importance to the team which are trying to retain the tiger dance tradition. Our aim is to facilitate a tough competition among the teams.”
Dr Santhosh Bharati Guruji will be inaugurating “Pilinalike 2” on October 22. The district minister in-charge, Ramanath Rai will preside over the programme. Police commissioner S Murugan will be the chief guest. The inaugural tiger dance for the competition will be performed by the Barke Tiger dance team.
All the seating arrangements have been done at the Volleyball ground. Seating arrangements for women have been made separately. More than 1000 chairs have been put up for the public to watch the tiger dance and another 1000 people can watch from the gallery which has been set up.
