Addressing the gathering MLA J R Lobo said that Diwali is a festival that is celebrated not only in India, but in Nepal and also countries where Indians are residing. “This is not a festival that only Hindus celebrate. Indians of all religions come together to celebrate the festival of lights and through this programme, I want to convey the message that we should all live in peace and harmony. Only when there is peace and harmony among the people, our society, city and country can develop. When we are divided among the lines of religion, caste, creed, etc., development is not possible.” He wished everyone gathered a very happy Diwali.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson of State Child Right Protection Commission Dr Kripa Alva said that Diwali signifies the victory of good over evil, light over darkness. “Where is this darkness and light? Both, light and darkness are in our hearts and minds. We should light up the darkness inside of us, keep it away and let the light shine forever. You (kids) are our country’s future. If we want our country to move forward, you have to move forward. And for that, you have to keep your light shining,” she added.

Denis D’Silva delivered the vote of thanks. There was a Yakshagana performance at the end of the programme. Vishwas Kumar Das, MUDA Chairman Ibrahim Kodijal, Mohammed Masood, Beary Sahitya Academy president Hanif, Umesh Kotian, Prakash salian, Radakrishna, Mahabala Marla and others were present.
