The formal programme began with an invocation. Corporator of Bejai ward, Lancelot Pinto welcomed the gathering and said, “When I informed MLA J RLobo about the development of the Anegundi road, he himself took the initiative and brought the engineers for the estimation of the road.” He thanked J R Lobofor his initiative in concreting the road.
MLA J R Lobo speaking on the occasion said that when any development work is completed and inaugurated, it is something to feel happy about. “When there is development, people feel happy. When the development work is going on, people face a lot of hardship but when it is completed, they feel the joy, even the elected members feel happy of accomplishing the job well.”
He further said that people of Mangaluru want development and they worked unitedly forgetting party differences towards this endeavour. “If today,Mangaluru city has been listed in the smart city project, it is because of the mentality of Mangaloreans. Mangaluru has been listed scientifically in the smart city list due to the people’s representatives and the people of Mangaluru working hand in hand. The people of Mangaluru are giving importance to hygiene and keeping the city clean. Mangaluru is much cleaner compared to other cities. Even Bengaluru and Mysuru have not been listed in the smart city project.”
He also said that discussions are going on to develop the roads and to start the footpath work soon. “We will start the footpath work in the city soon and will develop the markets and bus stands within two years of time. We will also develop the drainage system. The contractor, M G Hussain has completed the concreting of Anegundi road within 45 days at a cost of Rs 1.65 crore. He has done a very neat and quality work. In the coming days, we will computerize the Mangalore City Corporation, so that people can sit in their homes and submit applications or pay bills online. If we, Mangaloreans, being so brilliant cannot computerize the MCC, then it will not be possible to do it in the entire country. If we computerize MCC, many people will be benefited. Our MCC is in the development process, with an ideal size we can experiment on any projects. If the people and elected representatives join hands, we can work wonders in any ward. Let us all join hands to make Mangaluru a smart city,” he added.
