Mangaluru: MLA Moideen Bava held a press meet at the Tejaswini Hospital here, on February 15.

Addressing the mediapersons, Bava said that when he was in Bengaluru he learnt of a road accident at the National Highway (NH 66) in Baikampady which resulted in the death of Naveen Rai. Bava said, “When I enquired, it came to my notice that the construction of the highway was being done without any regards to the safety of the vehicles. The construction company, Rajdeep Buildcon and NH authority is to be blamed for not even constructing proper barricades alongside the fly over.”

“When I inquired about Naveen’s family I found that the family is very poor and had to make ends meet with only minimal wages. I had appealed to the contractor to provide a relief of Rs 5 lakh to the ailing family on humanitarian grounds. Rajdeep Buildcon construction however sanctioned Rs 2.5 lakh as relief to the family of the deceased,” Bava said. Bavalater handed over the cheque of Rs 2.5 lakh to Sarojini Shetty, mother of NaveenRai.

When asked why the barricades were not in place yet, P D Vijay Kumar said, “The problem is due to shifting of a pole by MESCOM. The electric company had given a wrong estimate and now no company is coming forward to do the work.”

Bava said, “I met with an accident on the same National Highway, as the road is also used by the train belonging to MCF and they are careless about the oncoming traffic while closing the gates. I will take legal action against NH authority, who have given permission to MCF to use the NH like their own property.”

Bava also released the election manifesto and CD’s for the ZP and TP elections for areas under his constituency. “I regret that I cannot meet people face-to-face during the time of the election since I have undergone a surgery and will be taking rest. We have received funds to the tune of Rs 7 crore, which have been utilized for the benefit of the people irrespective of religion. After I came to power I have built concrete roads in places where even an auto-rickshaw moved with great difficulty.

We expect to win all the 3 ZP seats in Gurupura, Yedapadav and Neermarga which come under my constituency and 8 out of 9 seats in the TP elections. It is very important for people to vote for us to continue the development works,” he said.
