Mangaluru: Father Muller Medical College (FMMC) held the inauguration of the new Catheterization Lab at the FMMI campus premises here, on June 18.
Administrator of FMMCH, Fr Richard Coelho welcomed the gathering. MLC Ivan D’Souza and Bishop of Mangalore Diocese Fr Aloysius D’Souza inaugurated the new lab by cutting the ribbon.
Speaking on the occasion, Director of FMCI Fr Patrick Rodrigues said that the new catheterization laboratory contains the latest equipment that today’s technology has to offer with a number of features to make angiograms, angioplasty, and interventional work not only easier but also very beneficial both to the staff and the patient. “This new Cath Lab will reduce about 75% of the radioactivity that could be having an effect on the staff and patients, and they will be safer. We have invested about Rs 4.5 crore on this Cath lab. The equipment is from Philips company and is the best in the market at present with all the latest features. It will be used primarily to examine the arteries and the chambers of the heart.”
Addressing the gathering, MLC Ivan D’Souza said that the heart is an important organ of the body. “We need to take care of the heart and know if there are any problems with it. I am not a doctor but I know that this machine will be helpful to the people of the city and also the world. This is a huge investment by FMMC for the good of the society.” He further said that during his younger days, the old were usually diagnosed with heart problems but today, even the youth are affected by problems of the heart. “With this machine, I hope the young and the old will be able to identify their heart problems faster.”
In his presidential speech, Bishop D’Souza said that during this admission season, he received many recommendations for FMMC for medical seats. “People recognize that this institute is the best and that is why they trust it. A hospital needs good equipment to diagnose and treat its patients. A best hospital needs to give the best facilities. The heart is an important part that a body needs to function. And with this new lab, we can treat people better.”
