Mangaluru: The annual Flower exhibition organized by department of horticulture was inaugurated at the Kadri Park here on February 14.
District In-Charge Minister Ramanath Rai inaugurated the flower show, Terrace Garden and Mayor Mahabala Marla inaugurated the vegetable and plant section by cutting the ribbon. Later they also viewed various stalls being put up in the exhibition. The exhibition will be conclude on February 17.
Addressing the mediapersons Ramanath Rai said that, horticulture is promoting farming through the exhibition of their products and encouraging the farmers to involve themselves more into cultivation. The state government is encouraging the farmers in agriculture through various projects. The horticulture department is taking keen interest in promoting the products of the farmers through the exhibition and encouraging them. He said that more such flower and vegetable shows should be conducted to encourage the farmers to be more and more involved into farming.
When asked about the entry fee for the exhibition, Rai said that this is not a commercial exhibition, by paying minimum charges as entry fees, people can view various kind of plants, flowers and can also get more knowledge about gardening, especially terrace gardening.
The show was a spectacular profusion of colours that included elaborate flower and vegetable arrangements. The special attraction of the exhibition was the model of the Mars Mission which was made of 12,000 Dutch roses and ferns and a elephant model near a fountain.
Speaking to mangalorean.com Umashaker from Mysore said that we have taken three days to make the structure of the mars mission. We have used 12,000 dutch roses. We have used oasis sponge on the structure to keep the ferns and roses fresh for four days.
Mayor Mahabala Marla, corporator Roopa D Bangera and others were also present.
